Essjay International, Lower Parel, Mumbai
Located
in an Industrial estate at Lower Parel the original premises
comprising 6 galas were a motley mix of haphazardly sprung
up office departments and sampling workshops. The
client’s brief in addition to an ever-expanding programme
was to streamline the whole setup and operations of the
company into an organised smoothly running entity. It was
also to be aesthetically at par with the international offices
they dealt with. To achieve this, the office spaces comprising
4 of the 6 galas were planned around a large central node
or “Commons” resulting in a simple and effective
circulation pattern. This is also heightened by a tectonic
shift in the floor finish of the node (rough stone) and
it’s surrounding office areas (Granite for the general
offices and Ash wood for the Director’s suites.)
While
designing the Interior, emphasis has been placed on creating
functionality that is both humane and stimulating for the
users. Colour palates and materials are therefore muted,
the lighting is varied and in general only Glass partitions
separate the individual rooms and the common areas. The
result is an interior design, which for all its reduction
seems warm and pleasantly familiar. The message is clear
and simple: those who visit the offices or work here are
to feel completely at ease.
