A
Public Relation Consultant's Office, Mumbai
The
project is an office for a Public relation consultant. The
space is a 425 Sqft., characterless rectangular box located
on the ground level of a mix Commercial + Residential use
complex.
The
programme being fairly simple, the brief was to give the
space much-needed natural light and an identity that would
match the Client’s flamboyance. The space was planned
in a logical progression of the programme i.e. Staff space,
private reception room and the consultant’s cabin.
On plan, the space describes a skewed circulation spine
that terminates into the private cabin. It is this skewed
line that has been extruded into a screen between the public
and the semi-private that plays a major role in sculpting
the volume of the shell. It floats, bends, folds and finally
wraps around on to the street front. Made out of Teak wood
framing the screen is clad externally
by electric blue Lexan polycarbonate sheets. Lexan polycarbonate
was chosen as much for its properties of translucence (allowing
natural light to filter in) as its allusion to the quality
of transparency in the working of the firm.
